So what IS electronic pickpocketing?

Electronic pickpocketing takes place when someone uses an RFID reading device to steal your credit card and personal contact information. The information stored on YOUR credit card. Originally these reading devices were quite large and could be easily detected by bystanders, today's readers are actually applications (apps) enabled on smartphones and even smaller devices. Your identity can be taken from your back pocket, wallet or purse in a matter of seconds.

How can you protect yourself from Electronic Pickpocketing?

What appears to be a simple paper ATM card sleeve can easily save you thousands of dollars, myriad phone calls and the hassle of reissuing credit cards. The DieboldDirect RFID protection sleeve contains a unique conductive layer inside which provides a secure barrier at 12.56MHz and 860-980MHz by limiting the flow of RF energy between the reader and the credit card or other RFID containing device. The RFID shielding card sleeves are tear-resistant and meet current Federal Government legislation, including the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI), the Real ID Act and the Homeland Security Presidential Directive (HSPD). Additionally, the United States government requires that when new ID cards are issued, they must be delivered with an approved shielding sleeve, envelope or holder.

In addition to ATM, debit and credit cards, any passport created after 2005 will likely carry your information using RFID. Find our Passport protection sleeves here.

What IS RFID? According to Wikipedia, Radio-Frequency Identification is the wireless non-contact use of radio frequency electromagnetic fields to transfer data, for the purpose of automatically identifying and tracking tags attached to objects. So in short, all of your contact data, including your full name, account numbers, even your phone number, is stored within your card.
